The Gothic Period

Romanesque, and Norman, Early and High Gothic, Rayonnant

1. Weekly Analysis What I learned

The Gothic style represents a transition toward colossal architecture. It is defined by its stone walls, sense of stability and rounded arches. This period represents one of stronghold and reclusive growth, where the sturdy masonry creates a tranquil and cave-like atmosphere then emanates permanence and security.

3. One Step Further

Jean d'Orbais- was an architect of the High gothic style. He was of the first four architects of the Cathedral of Reims.

4. Conclusion

All in all, the Gothic style creates an extraordinary evolution of these concepts. The Gothic style shifts the focus from infrastructure to lighting- considering its huge emphasis on windows. The Gothic styles stand as an attestation for the architectural inspiration from the Middle Ages. These structures are truly beautiful, and even seem to defy gravity.
